The Rift-West Region covers Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Nakuru, Bungoma and Kisumu counties. Major peace and security issues include inter-communal and cross border conflicts, competition over water and pasture, the proliferation of small arms & light weapons and negative cultural practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and early child marriages.
REINVENT Programme interventions in these counties includes:
- Capacity building of police stations along the hot spot borders to prevent cross border conflicts.
- Strengthening the capacity of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) and North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) secretariats in Conflict Sensitive Development & conflict management approaches in order to safeguard development projects.
- Support initiatives to County and Sub-county security Intelligence Committees, community peace and security structures such as Community Policing Committees, Nyumba Kumi & Peace Committees and civil society organisations working together to address threats to security and peace.
